This is an interesting and perhaps an unintentionally amusing clip of the Celebrity Silhouette leaving the Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The shipyard has just enough room to build the ship but not to turn her around, so she was towed down the River Ems backwards.
What struck me as unintentionally amusing were the repeated statements of how amazing, exciting and incredible moving the ship down the river was by the Celebrity executives. About the fourth or fifth time I heard their gushing enthusiasm, I found myself thinking, well, it wasn’t that impressive.
Well they may be a bit gushing however it was very impressive to me. Supurb shiphandling because there is no depth in the river at Papenburg which is remarkable shipyard. By the way your new Blog layout is very nice indeed.
Good Watch.
I agree. It is fine shiphandling. I think I just lost it when the cruise president commented that he didn’t know how the yard could measure the how deep the water was, or words to that effect. They don’t mention it in the video but this is the third Solstice class ship that Meyer Werft has built and delivered for Celebrity, so this is at least the third trip down the Em with a ship exactly like this one.
It was good to see that Dimitrios Kafetzis is captain. He was the captain of the Celebrity Infinity when we took a cruise to Alaska a few years ago.
Glad you like the blog update. It was overdue.
