Her French competitors refer to her as La Petite Anglaise. Tomorrow, when the twenty boats in Vendée Globe non-stop round-the-world single-handed yacht race set off from Les Sables-d’Olonne, France, Samantha Davies will be the only woman in the race. When she sails tomorrow, she will be waving goodbye to her husband and her Romain, and 14-month-old son, Ruben. Davies is an experienced single handed sailor, placing fourth on corrected time in the 2008-2009 Vendée Globe as well as sailing in numerous other major races.
Samantha Davies: ‘My partner’s Vendée Globe will be harder than mine’
Thanks for posting this. I was a young mother when I first read Dove (Robin Graham) and I too, wanted to sail around the world. Of course, it takes a lot more than a book and a dream. For Samantha, It also takes the love and support of the father of her child, in order for her to realize her dream.
Samantha Davies is just one of a very interesting cadre of female sailors who have demonstrated that they can compete on equal terms with male professionals. Ellen MacArthur, Dee Caffari, Tracy Edwards, Catherine Chabaud, Emma Richards and Naomi James are a few names that come to mind.
Is Sam running a blog as she goes along?
Sam is blogging here: http://www.saveol-samdavies.com/
Thanks Buck.
Thanks for the blog info but…………….. what can we say? I feel so sorry for everyone involved in all the hard work and as for Sam herself., we can only imagine how she feels right now 🙁 You are safe Sam and your boat will be back (as will you). GL x
