Help GREEN SEAS Deliver Humanitarian Aid to Nicaragua on Chinese Junk — 5 Comments

  1. The delivery of humanitarian aid is a worthy cause. However the President of Nicaragua has just offered Mr. Snowden, the U.S. traitor, asylum in their country. Venezuela has also done the same thing.

    Good Watch.

  2. That’s great Capt. Boucher shares that with us. However, I doubt Mr. Snowden will be carrying with him and food stuffs, and medical supplies if and when he shows up in Nicaragua. Until then your efforts are admirable. All except for one little thing. Is using a old, junk-rig sailboat to transport aid to those Nicaraguans who are less forturnate really the best ldea available? I doubt it. Have you ever thought about collecting your supplies and then putting said supplies into a shipping container and sending it Nicaragua? The stuff will get there in about a week for the west coast and you could have as missionary group distribute it as needed. You can rent/contract with shippers who offer LTL service. I ship electronic goods out of china and use a LTL carrier who has a minimum space in the container of one cubic meter. Maybe you need more than a cubic meter, but I doubt if you need more than 10.
After all, how much was that 40′ sailboat going to carry? The last thing you want to do is carry all your supplies yourself on an old Junk-Rig boat of questionable condition, that you don’t even own. And don’t forget that it’s chabasco season now and you can’t get insurance for waters south of Baja Mexico. And once you get to Nicaragua, how are you going to get that boat home. Surely not sail it over two thousand miles up hill to get back to California. ………….rent a container.

  3. Once again we have a case of dramatics to deliver humanitarian aid. Mr. Snowden is a “fly in the ointment” in getting that done as is the delivery method. Completely agree with Rob’s assessment of the situation and planned method.
If Nicaragua gets its Canal there might come a day when they will be sending humanitarian aid to other countries – perhaps Panama – hmmm.

    Good Watch.

  4. Regardless of what one might think of this modest pilot project, Edward Snowden, and where he may or may not seek asylum, is entirely beside the point.

  5. I think as a pilot program this sounds brilliant. The junk is obviously too small but it’s a decent way to get something going, at least some public/media attention. Shipping containers might carry more, yes, but if the point is to set a groundwork for community involvement and volunteers then it doesn’t really matter. What stands out and makes this idea different is that it isn’t just people distributing stuff. If it can actually empower people down there it will get my thumbs up of approval. If not, I’ll stand corrected.

I doubt that many people on Nicaragua’s Carribean coast have any idea or care about Edward Snowden.
