A video shot and edited by Dave Elsmo about the Deuce, the world’s largest iceboat, on Lake Mendota, in Madison, WI during the Wisconsin Stern Steerers Association Regatta. The 54′ stern-steerer speed demon built in the 1930s and rebuilt in 2006 is said to have a top recorded speed of 104 mph (90 knots.)
At that speed, if you were to fall off, I wonder how far you’d slide.
Race cars, speed boats, jumping from planes, cliffs, building, radio towers,
mountain climbing, goimg deep into the ocean, they all want to push their luck with fate?
Most of us wise-up with age.
Thank god some people don,t grow up !so old fuddy duddys like you have something to watch. what a boring world it would be if it was full of grown-ups
Fastest vessel under sail?
It depends who you ask. The high speeds recorded on the older runs cannot be confirmed and overall speeds seems to have dropped once radar and GPS came into use. We will be posting about issue soon.
Great seeing iceboat ‘The Deuce.’ Something we don’t see down here in the semi-south in the winter. Video well done but I would have liked some ‘narrative’ along with the music explaining design, construction of the boat, speed attained, cautions and dangers. How do they brake them down at the end of a run? What about the blades and how are they cared for? Personal clothing and equipment required. Record beaking speed? The cost $$ to build such a boat? Lots of questions but no answers in this video. Still, it’s GREAT! Congratulations!
When do you want to race been waiting 20 years for some one who wants to put up for Charity!!!!
Check out the charity challenge on wwww.miswislandiceyacht.com I am waiting but getting old and hate the cold !! So waiting in Volcan Panama ! The Duce looks Beautiful !! Keep it up Daniel !!!
My brother and I clocked Miss Wisconsin (sail boat referenced in post above) 16 years ago on the Black Rock Desert at over 100 mph on a few occasions and this was before the boat was rebuilt. NALSA would not let us sail with them because they had “the fastest” boat (Iron Duck) doing around 70 mph.
