Over the last few years, we have been posting about the return of humpback whales to the waters around New York harbor. Recently, nine humpbacks were sighted in the Hudson River.

The Indian point nuclear power plant in Buchanan, NY, utilized Hudson River water for Rankine cycle condenser cooling.. the effect was to de-aerate the river water, & lower dissolved oxygen levels..
Now, Indian Point is closed, Higher dissolved oxygen levels are good for marine flora, and fauna..Alas, wooden pilings and piers are attacked by worms and gribbles..
Incredible, but so hopeful. They are such magnificent creatures. I’ve been on whale watches in New England, and now I’m looking for ones closer to home.
